Annual Letter

IMPORTANT - Club Championship, Annual Membership Meeting and Other News

To all TCRR Members and Friends – I hope this running season has been great for you and we are now moving into the ½ marathon and marathon peak season – good luck to all of you.

Per the TCRR Constitution and Bylaws we must have an Annual General Membership Meeting to review the year’s achievements and elect Board Members for the coming year.  Traditionally we hold this annual meeting immediately following the TCRR Club Championship and this year will be no exception.

Everyone is invited to run the Club Championship at 9:00 AM on December 7, 2013.  The race is a nice 7-miler held at Richard Bland.  The cost is very reasonable and everyone is invited to bring a dish for sharing after the race.  Only TCRR members in good standing (dues paid) are eligible to win awards at this race, but anyone can run the race.

The race application is on our website – www.tricitiesroadrunners.org – sign up today!

If you are interested in becoming a board member, please let me or any other board member know.  If you want to see improvements in how your club operates, and bring forth new ideas for races, now is a great time.  Become a board member and make a difference!

We have also added a couple of new races to our October racing schedule.  On October 5th we will hold the 1st Annual Matoaca Middle School 5K.  The race will be at the school on Hickory Rd and will actually be run on three surfaces – track, cross country, and road!  Proceeds will benefit the school’s running team and hopefully purchase new hurdles for the track.

At 8:00 AM on October 12th we will have the 1st Annual Hydrocephalus Fund 5K.  This event will be held at White Bank Park in Colonial Heights; use the new Race for the Cause course, and proceeds will benefit the Hydrocephalus Foundation.

Also on October 12 – in the afternoon – 3:00 PM – the Ft Lee Oktoberfest 10K returns!  The race will start and end at the post field house and participants will get free entry to the Ft Lee Oktoberfest to be held after the race.

Applications for all three races are on our website.

Different news – it is time for Sharon and me to retire from race management.  We’ve loved it for many years and Sharon has done the registration/results/membership for all of our races and other events.  I’ve served as race director for all of our races at one time or another, and serve as race coordinator for 7-8 races per year.  On January 1, 2014 Sharon and I will step aside and let others have as much fun as we’ve had through the years.  We announced our retirement to the TCRR Board of Directors earlier this year, but now it is time to actively solicit support from others to pick up the actions we’ve been working.

We are not leaving TCRR; just hoping to run a bit more as we both retire from an active work schedule.  I will remain as point of contact for Ft Lee activities, coach the Army 10-Miler Team, and serve as race coordinator for a select number of races, but that will be limited.

It’s been a blast these past 20 years – Sharon and I look forward to the next 20!
